Introduced in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date was the very first self-winding wristwatch to feature not only a date window but also a window for the day of the week, spelt out in full and offered today in 26 languages. The Day-Date is the only model that Rolex has never offered for sale in steel – only gold and platinum, hence it was associated with power and success and found its way onto the wrists of many American presidents. Consequently, Rolex dubbed the Day-Date’s bracelet the President, though this nickname has spilled over to cover the whole watch in collector conversations.
