Presented in 2008, the Rolex Deepsea is water resistant up to 3,900 metres thanks to an RLX (grade 5) titanium case back and Ringlock system – a nitrogen-alloyed steel compression ring that reduces the amount of stress on the case as it descends underwater. In 2022, Rolex launched the Deepsea Challenge, which is water resistant up to a staggering 11,000 metres and was inspired by the prototype that was attached to the arm of the submersible that took explorer and filmmaker James Cameron into the Mariana Trench.
