Though introduced in 1957 as a sports and racing chronograph – hence its tachymeter bezel, the Speedmaster found its fame elsewhere. Strapped to Buzz Aldrin’s wrist when he and Neil Armstrong first set foot on the lunar surface in 1969, the Speedmaster became the first watch worn on the Moon, and Omega would never fail to remind the world since. The Speedmaster did not rest on its laurels and continued to do great things, such as timing the 14-second fuel burn that would bring the Apollo 13 crew back to Earth after an on-board explosion in 1970. Today, no collection is more synonymous with Omega, and rightfully so.
