Description

The Patek Philippe Ref. 5015 stands out because it combines classic design with useful complications. Its moon-phase display, power-reserve indicator, and elegant layout give it a distinctive character. Its thin automatic movement also shows Patek Philippe’s skill in traditional watchmaking and fine craftsmanship.

The Patek Philippe Complications Ref. 5015 has a classic and elegant design. Its white dial uses Arabic numerals and an unusual asymmetrical layout, with the power-reserve indicator at 10 o’clock, moon-phase display at 7 o’clock, and small seconds at 4 o’clock. The 35 mm case gives the watch a refined, traditional look, while versions came in materials such as yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, and platinum. A sapphire crystal protects the dial and adds good clarity. The watch usually comes on a black or brown alligator or leather strap rather than a metal bracelet, with a matching precious-metal buckle.

Inside, the Ref. 5015 uses Patek Philippe’s thin automatic Calibre 240 family. Many examples use Calibre 240/154 or 240/152, depending on the version. The movement uses a small 22-karat gold micro-rotor, which allows Patek Philippe to keep the watch relatively thin. It drives the hours, minutes, small seconds, moon-phase display, and power-reserve indicator. The movement also shows strong traditional finishing and craftsmanship, with the micro-rotor visible through the display back on some versions.

Patek Philippe introduced the Ref. 5015 in the 1990s, with the model dating to 1994 according to Patek Philippe’s own historical material. The company described it as the first model in its “useful complications” collection. It combined a moon-phase display with a power-reserve indicator and used the distinctive small-seconds position that became a signature of the model. The 5015 later appeared in different precious metals and configurations, making it an interesting example of Patek Philippe’s approach to elegant watches with practical complications.
