Unlike the Royal Oak whose case and bracelet are faceted to sparkle like a disco ball, the softer-form Offshore only reveals its luxuriousness to more discerning eyes, which is a pleasant surprise, considering that it is the sportier execution.
The Offshore was developed as a bigger and bolder evolution of the Royal Oak, and this attractive variant certainly lives up to that ethos. Its black "Méga Tapisserie" dial, ceramic pushers and crown, and alligator strap appear striking among the pink gold-toned sub-dials, case, strap stitching, and pin buckle. The daring colourway is complemented by oversized, luminous hands and hour indices as well as a chronograph and tachymeter scale, allowing the watch to serve its wearer well on a dive or spectating a race if the wearer is as daring as the timepiece. Of course, the alligator strap should be swapped out of a rubber one prior to serious water activity, with which Audemars Piguet would be able to assist; they were the second brand - following Hublot, interestingly - to fit a rubber strap on a luxury watch, after all. But it should be clear "who wore it better", especially after laying eyes on this treasure.
