The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Gran’ Sport Duo 295.8.51 stands out because of its reversible case and two dials. It combines classic Reverso design with a sporty look and dual-time function. Its unusual shape, practical features, and strong history make it a distinctive watch.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Gran’ Sport Duo 295.8.51 has a strong and sporty design while keeping the classic Reverso shape. The main dial uses a black matte finish with luminous Arabic numerals and luminous hands. It also shows the date, small seconds, and a 24-hour indicator. Turn the case over and you find a second silvered dial with a separate time-zone display and another 24-hour indicator. The stainless-steel rectangular case measures about 28mm wide and 42–44mm long, depending on the measurement method. Both sides use sapphire crystals, and the reversible case protects the dial when you flip it around. The original versions came with a stainless-steel brick-link bracelet and a double-folding clasp, which gives the watch a solid and sporty feel.
Inside, the Reverso Gran’ Sport Duo 295.8.51 uses the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 851, a manually wound mechanical movement. The movement has 21 jewels and beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour. It provides roughly 42–48 hours of power reserve, depending on the source and individual example. The Calibre 851 also uses a rectangular shape that fits the Reverso case, rather than simply placing a round movement inside it. The movement powers the main time display, small seconds, date, 24-hour indication, and the second time zone. The second time zone can be adjusted independently through a pusher on the case.
The Reverso story began in 1931, when Jaeger-LeCoultre created the watch for polo players who needed to protect the crystal and dial from the shocks of the game. Its reversible case allowed the wearer to turn the watch around and shield the front. The design quickly became known for its Art Deco style and rectangular case. Jaeger-LeCoultre later developed more complicated Reverso models, including versions with multiple time displays. The Gran’ Sport Duo 295.8.51 belongs to this later period and dates from around 2000–2005, with documented examples from 2002. It combines the original Reverso idea with a more sporty design, dual-time functionality, and a practical stainless-steel bracelet.
